Everton are in advanced talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the transfer of Idrissa Gueye, reports Fabrizio Romano in his column for Caught Offside. The Senegal international had joined the French side from the Toffees but is now in line for a return to the Premier League.
Everton in Advanced Negotiations With PSG Over Idrissa Gueye Signing
Full Agreement ‘Expected’ to Be Reached Soon for Gueye’s Transfer
Gueye has already been transfer-listed by PSG, as their new manager Christophe Galtier isn’t keen on using him this season. The French giants are ready to sell the 32-year-old, whom they had only signed in 2019 for around £30 million.
There are discussions ongoing over whether he will leave on loan or on a permanent basis. PSG, however, are eager to sell him permanently as he does not feature in their future plans. Frank Lampard’s side are well ahead on negotiations for the deal, with an agreement expected to be reached very soon.

The Senegalese midfielder was a beloved figure at Everton, whom he joined from Aston Villa in 2016. In fact, some fans recognized him as a ‘cult hero’ because of his ability to dominate in midfield and bully opposition players. But Gueye refuted those claims, instead stating that is just a hard worker who likes to express himself on the pitch.

Everton Eyeing Another Midfielder Despite Gueye Being a Priority
The Toffees are also looking at future transfers to prioritize after the signing of Gueye. Of course, the PSG midfielder remains their priority, but they also have a few more midfielders on their transfer wishlist as Lampard wants to significantly strengthen his midfield core after a disappointing outing last season.
Wolves midfielder Leandro Dendoncker is another midfielder on their list, Romano adds. But they are not talking to Chelsea about the possibility of re-signing Ross Barkley in the summer as well.

For the time being, Everton are focused on getting the Gueye signing over the line. They believe the tenacious, robust midfielder can help them control matches better going forward. Until now, Everton have made three summer signings – Dwight McNeil, Ruben Vinagre and James Tarkowski.
