It’s been a slow week of transfer news for Oxford United with no new arrivals or departures, but the U’s did manage successive pre-season friendly victories.

Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: No Transfer News and Pre-Season Wins

Pre-Season Saturday Kicks Off With A Win

Oxford United began their Saturday double header with a 3-1 win at North Leigh, in front of a record crowd.

Marcus McGuane gave the U’s a first-half lead but the hosts levelled shortly after the restart. However, a penalty from former Millers’ striker Matty Taylor restored Oxford’s advantage before Marcus Browne rounded off the scoring.

Second Game Also Ends In Victory for Oxford United

Following their win earlier win at North Leigh, the U’s then travelled to Southern League Premier Division Central champions Banbury United and recorded another victory.

Cameron Brannagan opened the scoring with his third goal in two games following his brace against Oxford City while youngster Tyler Goodrham added a second on the half-hour mark.

Jerome Sinclair, who turned out for the U’s on loan in 2019, also played the first half after it was revealed he has been training with the club this week.

Banbury pulled a goal back in the second half but the U’s held on to secure the victory.

Karl Robinson Hoping for Busy Week Ahead

Having seen no new arrivals or departures this week, U’s boss Karl Robinson says the club must step up a gear in the transfer window.

Reports have suggested the club are close to signing Stuart Findlay from Philadelphia Union but Robinson has only seen the arrival of Ciaron Brown so far.

“This week we need to put our foot down and get one or two things over the line,” Robinson told the Oxford Mail.

“I would like more. We’ve just missed out in certain areas, but behind the scenes, there are two deals sort of done that we’ve known about for a while, one of them from a Premier League club.

“We’ve got to be careful what we say, but there are things that will make this team stronger that aren’t here yet.

“A week today, I want to see our starting XI, or close to it, and that’s only seven days away. It’s going to be a busy seven days.”

Speaking about Sinclair, the U’s boss added: “If he keeps improving, yeah, in that period of time he’s been away he showed the energy he’s got.

“He’s different to Matty (Taylor), he’s different to Sam (Baldock), he’s younger. He would be ours, he wouldn’t be a loan, so there’s a lot of positives.”
