The Saga is Over
With the departure of Alexandre Lacazette at the end of the 2021/22 season, Arsenal were left short in their striking department which was a clear issue needing to be rectified in the summer transfer window. The north-London side had pushed to since Serbian marksman Dusan Vlahovic in January, only to watch their attempts fail as the Fiorentina forward decided to sign for Juventus late on in the window.
With the side narrowly missing out on the top four and the chance to play Champions League football next season, Mikel Arteta set his sights on a new number nine, with Gabriel Jesus at the top of his shopping list.

Since registering their interest in Jesus just two months ago, Arsenal have been relentless in their efforts to sign the Manchester City forward. Interest in the player grew considerably after the deal taking Erling Haaland to the Premier League champions was confirmed earlier this month, but the Gunners have swatted off their rivals and have now won the race for their top target.
Mikel Arteta’s Influence
Signing for Arsenal has been Jesus’ priority this summer window, and it is no surprise that Arteta was one of the main reasons for the move materialising. With the pair working together for two years whilst the Spaniard was on the coaching staff at Manchester City, they have a great relationship and one that both parties were eager to rekindle.

With no Arsenal striker scoring more than five goals in the 2021/22 Premier League campaign, Arteta will be hoping his new signing can give the side some much-needed cutting edge in front of goal as they seek a return to the Champions League for the first time in seven years.
The arrival should rightly have Arsenal fans excited for the upcoming season. But with signs that the club are eyeing up more big names this window, the best could be still to come.
