Chelsea ‘Working Hard’ to Secure Summer Signings But Are Focused on Securing Current Contracts

Chelsea
Chelsea are working hard behind the scenes in trying to secure summer signings ahead of the new season, reports Fabrizio Romano. The Blues just have a few other issues to resolve first before they can start pushing for new arrivals.

Chelsea Confident Signings Will Arrive in Summer

Chelsea Working Behind Scenes Over Transfers

Chelsea are keen to start the new era under owner Todd Boehly strongly and are confident of their chances of making multiple signings. For now, the Blues are focused on solving some of their internal problems before looking at new players.

They have to resolve the future of some wantaway players first. One of which includes Romelu Lukaku, who is looking to secure a return to Inter Milan in the summer. The issue there is Inter won’t be able to sign him on a permanent basis and can only afford a loan deal.

There are also question marks around the futures of Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, who both want to leave. Chelsea are prioritising ending the uncertainty around their futures before they can focus on new signings, as they might have to buy players to replace their wantaway starts.

Todd Boehly Prioritising Contract Renewals

The new Chelsea owner is also looking into the contract renewal of many players whose deals will expire in the next year. The likes of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Alonso will all become free agents next year if unable to secure contract agreements.

While Alonso is likely to be sold as he’s pushing for a move to Barcelona, Boehly wants to secure agreements with the midfielders. Chelsea failed to negotiate new contract renewals with any players towards the end of last season because of sanctions put on the club since Roman Abramovich put them up for sale.

The Blues are now looking to resume contract negotiations with players. Kante and Jorginho are likely to both be offered new contracts as they are key members of Thomas Tuchel’s side. Mason Mount can also get rewarded for his impressive work last season with a new long-term deal.

Chelsea will make signings in the summer, but it looks like it could take a bit longer than usual as the new management aims to clean up some of the mess from last season.
