Manchester United and Chelsea to Fight Over €80 Million 21-Year-Old Premier League Star

Leicester City defender

Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana is attracting a lot of transfer interest, as per RMC Sport, with Manchester United and Chelsea set to fight it out over the 21-year-old.

Where Will Leicester City Defender Wesley Fofana Be Playing Next Season?

Has He Earnt the Step-Up?

Leicester City defender Fofana suffered a major injury setback recently. The Frenchman fractured his fibula in a pre-season friendly against Villarreal last summer. A nasty and idiotic tackle sidelined Fofana for 41 games, equating to 223 days. He bounced back, though, and the Foxes showed an immediate upturn in their form as a result of his return.

Manchester United and Chelsea are at the heart of the interest surrounding Fofana. The former have struggled, Harry Maguire being under a lot of pressure whilst Raphael Varane has himself been injured. Meanwhile, the Blues are set to lose a number of instrumental defenders to the Spanish giants. Antonio Rudiger has also been announced as a Real Madrid and it seems some of his teammates could follow.

The Leicester City defender has age on his side and he is already a highly rated prospect. Having had two mid-range injuries, one at the King Power and one with Saint Etienne, as well as the aforementioned major one, though, raises questions about his injury susceptibility. It is a risky investment to make?

Could the Leicester City Defender Stay Put?

It was a below par season for Brendan Rodgers’ men in 2021/22. Injuries didn’t exactly help but there were still a few players who fell short of expectations. Looking to the future though, there are a lot of exciting players in their midst alongside Fofana so the Leicester City defender could easily stay put.

James Maddison, James Justin, Harvey Barnes and Patson Daka are just some of the younger Leicester players who have a bright future ahead, even if some may leave this summer. Fofana wouldn’t leave the Foxes for a small fee whatsoever: “it will take at least €80 million to convince Leicester City to sell.”

All in all, there are a number of pros and cons to the potential sale of the Leicester City defender. The club would do well to keep hold of him but they could also fetch a sizeable fee, as they did for his predecessor, Maguire. It is the case for Fofana that either at Leicester or a bigger team he can certainly thrive.
