Burnley Could Offer Andy Carroll Premier League Return

Andy Carroll

Andy Carroll has long since been out of the spotlight now and a Premier League return could be on the cards. The forward is currently playing at Reading, but with his short-term contract set to soon expire, Burnley are interested in taking him on, according to The Guardian’s rumour mill.

The Clarets have just lost Chris Wood to Newcastle and so are somewhat desperate for another striker to come in. Sean Dyche’s men are worryingly close to being castaway at the foot of the table. Following Norwich’s win over Everton, that led to Rafa Benitez being dismissed, Burnley dropped to 20th and are struggling.

On to Carroll and he was all over social media following those two spectacular disallowed goals against Fulham. The irony is that the Royals lost that game 7-0, but regardless, Carroll has displayed that he still possesses a moment of magic.

Carroll headed home against Derby in a huge game in the lower reaches of the Championship table a week or two back. This was a huge goal, only for a typical Rams fightback amidst their liquidation drama to see the game end 2-2, with centre-half Curtis Davies scoring the equaliser at the death in typically sensational fashion.

Back to Carroll and Reading and his contract at the Madejski Stadium under Veljko Paunovic is soon set to expire. Reading were a good side last season with the likes of Lucas Joao, Yakou Meite, Ovie Ejaria and Michael Olise powering them on in the attacking third. Now though, with Olise at Crystal Palace, Meite out injured and Joao having made just two substitute appearances, the landscape is oh so different. Ejaria has yet to catch fire this year in the absence of his fellow stars and so a lot of the mantle has fallen at the feet of Carroll.

The 33-year-old, who spent long periods with Newcastle and West Ham as well as getting a big money move to Liverpool, has contributed two goals and an assist in just under 600 league minutes.

Carroll made nine appearances for the Three Lions, between 2010 and 2012, scoring twice. His experience is invaluable to Reading and the same would apply to Burnley, both of whom are involved in relegation dogfights.
