Frankie McAvoy has left his position as Preston North End head coach, the club has confirmed.
The Scottish coach replaced Alex Neil in March 2021 on an interim basis before taking the job permanently in May.

Honest Statement
McAvoy leaves the club following a 1-0 loss to Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday, December 4.
Preston have won just one of their last five games and cite a lack of consistency for his dismissal.
The club said in a statement on pnefc.net: “Frankie stepped in earlier this year to assist us, initially in an interim role, before taking up the position of head coach. His first eight games at the end of last season were a huge success but this season we have struggled for consistency. Ultimately it is a results business and results to date have not met our expectations, we have therefore decided to make a change at this time.
“Frankie is an honest, hard-working person who deserves to succeed and he leaves us with our grateful thanks and best wishes for the future. He will always be welcome back at Deepdale at any time.”
Preston sit 18th in the Championship table after 21 games, of which they have won six, drawn seven and lost eight.
The club will now turn to a new manager to try and turn their fortunes around and climb up the table.
Targeting Quick Appointment
According to Lancashire Evening Post, the club are keen to have a new coach in place ahead of the game against Barnsley at Deepdale on Saturday, December 11.
It is claimed the club already have a coach in mind and added that that coach is understood to be employed by another club.
Club sources have told Lancashire Evening Post that McAvoy took the news of his sacking ‘like a gentleman’.
