A Harry Smith double contributed to a 4-1 Leyton Orient win over Sutton United in League Two. The O’s signed signs of recovery in the second half, following a very slow start to the game.
Harry Smith Double for Leyton Orient Sinks Sutton United in League Two Action
First Half – A Slow Start From the O’s
The opening 20 minutes were dominated by the visitors. They enjoyed large spells of possession, penning Orient in their own half. Then just after 18 minutes, Isaac Olaofe pounced on some poor defending to pick up the loose ball and put Sutton in front with a cool finish.
However, it was from there Orient finally got into the game. The U’s lead lasted only 12 minutes, with Theo Archibald equalised with half an hour played. The winger scored from close range after a long throw-in fell into his path.
Second Half – The Harry Smith Show
Just one minute after the restart, Orient got themselves in front. Archibald’s cross was spilt by Sutton goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis, which gave striker Harry Smith an easy header to nod home.
At this point with Orient ahead, they looked good value for their lead. However, it’s safe to say the East London side weren’t settling for a one-goal cushion.
In the 83rd minute, Harry Smith bagged his second with a superb volley from outside the box. A fine strike off the left-boot of the lofty forward all but sealed the three points for Kenny Jackett’s men.
Finally, in stoppage time, a short corner was played to Tom James who slotted the ball under Bouzanis to wrap up a 4-1 win for Leyton Orient.
Leyton Orient Express Up and Running
Orient are now seven league games unbeaten, with their last defeat in league action coming against Port Vale on October 2. Since then, Kenny Jackett’s side has maintained a strong place in the play-off mix.
The O’s end this weekend in sixth place on 27 points, just two points off the automatic play-off places. On the other hand, Sutton United drop down to ninth but remain just a point outside of the play-offs.
Up next for the O’s is a Tuesday night away trip to rock bottom Scunthorpe United.
