Oxford United to Move From Kassam Stadium
With Oxford United’s change of ownership awaiting EFL approval, board member Anindya Bakrie has given the clearest indication yet that the club will be playing their football at a new stadium.
Speaking to BBC Radio Oxford, the 46-year-old said: “We are not in a position to say exactly where, but it has to be in Oxford and we hope it’s not far away from the current place.
“We need to work with the authorities to get the land to do it.
“We need to do proper planning, we want to involve not only the community but talk to a lot of people who have done it to make it sustainable.
“If we can go up (to the Championship) in these two years that would be ideal.
“On the pitch (performance) is very crucial while we are designing, getting approval and having this ambition.”
The club’s lease at the Kassam Stadium expires in 2026 and the future of the club has been in doubt for some time. However, with the change of personnel in the board, a new home looks likely.
Chambers-Parillon Joins Havant & Waterlooville on Loan
U’s midfielder Leon Chambers-Parillon has joined National League South side Havant & Waterlooville on loan. The 20-year-old, who spent time with the club last December, arrived at the club ahead of their FA Cup clash against Charlton Athletic.
The youngster has only played three times for the U’s this season and has spent time on loan at Gloucester City.
Whyte Called Up for International Duty
For a third time this season, Oxford winger Gavin Whyte has been selected for Northern Ireland’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
The 25-year-old will be hoping to feature for Ian Baraclough’s side as they welcome Lithuania and Italy on November 12 and 15 respectively, meaning he will miss the trip to Ipswich Town.
However, the Tractor Boys have lost top-scorer Macauley Bonne after his inclusion in the Zimbabwe squad while Sam Morsy could still be selected for Egypt.
U’s Need FA Cup Replay After Draw Against Bristol Rovers
Oxford United will need an FA Cup first round replay after their match against Bristol Rovers ended 2-2 at Grenoble Road.
The U’s took the lead through former Gas striker Matty Taylor but were pegged back in first-half injury time.
However, Marcus McGuane netted his first Oxford goal just after the restart before the hosts missed a handful of chances, which included striking the woodwork three times.
The missed chances would come back to pay as Jamie Hanson conceded a penalty with just minutes remaining which was successfully converted.
The replay will take place at the Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, 16 November.
