It was a quiet week at Oxford United but defeat at Cheltenham Town on Saturday epitomises the mood around the club after another away day without a win.
Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: Defeat at Cheltenham for the U’s
Search for an Away Win Continues
Oxford made the short trip down the A40 on Saturday to take on League Two champions, Cheltenham Town.
The U’s hadn’t tasted victory in the league at Whaddon Road since 2005 and are still without a win on their travels this season.
And there was more bad news before the game after Cameron Brannagan missed the trip with a shoulder injury, although the midfielder should be back in action next week.
Despite Brannagan’s absence, it was a similar story for the U’s. Karl Robinson’s side dominated the first half but the only efforts on goal came through James Henry from distance.
After the restart, Oxford continued to push and probe but a rare defensive error from Jordan Thorniley allowed the Robins to get in behind and score the opener with what was their only shot in target in the whole game.
From then on, the visitors were unable to find a way back into the game and resorted to pumping long balls into the box against a Cheltenham defence with two tall central defenders.
The wait for an away win continues while the U’s have now only scored once from their previous three league games.
Goodrham Impressing on Loan
Oxford youngster Tyler Goodrham has already impressed while out on loan at Hayes & Yeading United.
The 18-year-old scored and was named man of the match on his debut in a 6-1 victory over Hartley Wintney before putting in a solid display in a 1-0 victory over Kings Langley.
He was then named man of the match for a second time as Hayes won 5-0 against Tonbridge Angels in the FA Cup.
