West Ham have signed Czech Republic midfielder Alex Kral on loan from Spartak Moscow, the club have confirmed.

He joins the Hammers on a loan deal with an obligation to buy. The 23-year-old joins a strong Czech contingent at the London Stadium, joining Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal.

It completes a busy deadline day for West Ham after the signing of Croatian midfielder Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow.

The Lowdown on Alex Kral

The Czech international has been a player that West Ham boss David Moyes has scouted for a while. Before the Euros, David Moyes picked Kral out as one of seven players to watch.

In his column in The Times, he said: “Kral, who has just turned 23, is a young midfielder, developed at Slavia Prague, who moved to Spartak Moscow.

“He is likely to start in the Czech midfield alongside Tomas Soucek and is similar in stature to Tomas, though plays in a slightly different style.

“He is good on the ball and looks to protect his defence and appears to have, like Tomas and (fellow Czech West Ham star) Vladimir Coufal, great mentality and bags of energy.”

The 23-year-old has been at Russian side Spartak Moscow since 2019. He played 30 times last season helping Spartak to second in the Russian Premier League.

Kral has been capped 22 times for Czech Republic and played a key role in his country’s route to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020. The signing of the 23-year-old will add further depth to West Ham’s midfield.

Another Great Transfer Window for West Ham

It has been another great transfer window for West Ham. Kurt Zouma signed from Chelsea will be a big boost to their defence. Midfielders Alex Kral and Nikola Vlasic will add further depth to an already impressive-looking midfield.

The Hammers have had an impressive start to the new Premier League season picking up seven points from nine. After finishing sixth last season, it is an exciting time to be a West Ham fan.

The key to their recent success has been recruitment. It has been exceptional since Moyes came back for a second spell in charge. His signings on paper will only strengthen his squad and with added fixtures in the Europa League that strength in depth will be needed.
