German international, Joshua Kimmich, has extended his contract by four years. After originally joining in 2015, from VFB Stuttgart, Kimmich has made 264 appearances for the Bavarian side. He has been a key-figure in the side during their dominant spell, which has seen the side enjoy success domestically and in Europe for the past decade. Bayern Munich fans will be happy to see one of their most consistent performers signing a new deal that will run until 2025.

Kimmich, still only 26 years of age, has often been known for playing with a maturity ahead of his years. In addition to that, he is a serial-winner, having won the Bundesliga every season since the 2015/16 campaign. This has made him a popular figure in the team and has spearheaded Bayern’s success. The jewel in the crown being their Champions League win in 2020, against Paris Saint-Germain.
In an interview on the Bayern Munich website, Kimmich stated that the environment created at the club was one of the key reasons that he stayed: “The most important reason for my contract extension is that I can pursue my passion with joy every day here at FC Bayern. I have a team where I can achieve everything, and a lot of teammates have become real friends.”
Stability on and off the Pitch
Starting out as a right-back, Kimmich has been able to transform his game into being a defensive midfielder. In this role, he has been key in turning defence into attack. Known for breaking up play in his own half and feeding more creative players. His ability to read the play is something that has made him one of the best players in the world. He’ll be hoping to add more trophies to his name this season.
The Bayern Munich player has often recieved individual accolades for his performances. He won ‘Defender of the Season’ in the Champions League in 2019/20, featured in the FIFA world 11 for the same season and has been named in the Bundesliga ‘Team of the Season’ on four ocassions. In the aforementioned interview, he suggested he is far from finished: “I still don’t think I’m at the end of my development and I’m convinced there’s a lot possible at FC Bayern in the next years. On top of that, my family feels at home here. Munich has become a second home. The combination we have here isn’t found all over the world.”
