‘Worse News’ Than Initially Thought

Speaking to the club’s website, Solskjaer said: “Unfortunately, it’s worse news on Alex Telles than we hoped for.

“His ankle injury is a little bit more severe than we hoped and he’ll be out for a little spell at least, the whole of August I would think.”

Telles picked up the injury during United’s training camp in Surrey and subsequently missed the 4-2 friendly defeat against Queens Park Rangers at the weekend.

Solskjaer initially said that he would be out “for a few weeks”, but he is now set to miss the first three Premier League matches of the season against Leeds United, Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Brandon Williams started the defeat against QPR in his place and Diogo Dalot returned to training this week, which gives Solskjaer options for the upcoming friendly against Brentford and for the start of the season.

Solskjaer believes he can count on his young players too, saying: “That is football. We’ve got kids wanting to play of course. Brandon has done well in the left-back position.”

Luke Shaw is currently unavailable after his summer exploits with England at Euro 2020.

United Trying to Keep Hold of Telles

Despite suffering a difficult start to his time at Manchester United, the club are keen to keep hold of Telles amid interest from Roma.

The Italian side, managed by former United boss Jose Mourinho, were looking to take the Brazillian on loan after Leonardo Spinazzola picked up a serious injury while playing for Italy at Euro 2020.

The form of Shaw throughout last season, which saw him regain his place in the England squad just ahead of the tournament, limited Telles to only nine appearances in the league.
