Bolstering Their Defence
The Eagles continue to bolster their defence following the arrival of new manager, Patrick Vieira.
Palace have already added Marc Guehi to their backline, who joined from Chelsea on a five-year deal after an impressive loan spell with Swansea City.
However, they had to make further additions after releasing a number of key players. Gary Cahill and Scott Dann both played a major part last in keeping them in the Premier League, but were released following the expiry of their contracts.
Palace also Mamadou Sakho depart following an injury hit campaign.
As a result, it left just James Tomkins and Martin Kelly as the only ‘outright’ centre-backs, although Cheikhou Kouyate spent the majority of last season filling in at centre-half.
Andersen enjoyed a successful campaign with Fulham last season, despite their relegation to the Championship.
The 25-year-old made 31 appearances for the Cottagers last season, building an excellent partnership with Tosin Adarabioyo in the process. The Dane was also handed the captain’s armband after just four games.
Andersen, who is the fresh off the back of a summer of football with Denmark at Euro 2020, had been attracting interest from Manchester United and Tottenham, but has opted for a move to Palace.
What Was Said?
Speaking about his move to the club website, Andersen said: “I’m extremely proud to be joining Crystal Palace and to be playing in the world’s best football league.
“The management of the club and Patrick Vieira have given me very strong assurance that they know my qualities, they believe in me and want me to play an important role in the team.
“I have a very positive impression of Patrick from the conversations I have had with him, and I have heard nothing but great things about the manager, the club and its plans for the future.”
