Borussia Dortmund in the Driving Seat to Secure Donyell Malen

Donyell Malen

Since losing Jadon Sancho to Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund have been on the lookout for a replacement, which was going to be no easy task. They have, however, found their man with PSV’s Donyell Malen set for a move. According to Ronan Murphy via Sport BILD, Dortmund have agreed personal terms with the forward and have offered PSV €25 million with the Dutch club holding out for €30 million.

Other than a difference in valuation, which is only €5 million, there is nothing in the way of this move happening. It makes sense for all parties. After the impressive season Malen had last time out followed by the Euros, his exit always looked on the cards. For PSV, if they get their asking price, they’ll be more than satisfied and, Dortmund, will be getting themselves a much-needed Sancho replacement. It seems a win-win situation.

Different Type of Player to Sancho

Although Borussia Dortmund are looking to make Malen their Sancho replacement, the Dutchman holds different traits to the winger. For starters, the Dutchman is a forward and Sancho is a winger. They both share that all-important pace going forward, but Sancho is more of a creator whereas Malen, like most strikers, will likely be seen finishing a move off.

Malen’s different traits could work wonders for Dortmund, however. Together with Haaland, the PSV man can form a deadly duo with the Norwegian holding the ball up for Malen’s runs in behind. The fact is, the duo, on paper, have all the assets to be a great success in the Bundesliga.

Without Sancho, Dortmund will be forced to adjust, but that shouldn’t stop the goals from finding the back of the net. The Bundesliga side are used to losing big players and adjusting successfully afterwards and Malen should help them to adjust once more.
