Burnley’s ‘Excellent Addition’

Collins has been a sought-after defender in the Championship for a while. He was linked with Manchester United in a previous summer transfer window and there were reports of their interest in this window too.

However, Burnley have moved to land their target for a reported fee of around £12 million, which should prove to be a shrewd investment from the new owners of the club.

Chairman Alan Pace told the club website: “We are extremely pleased to have secured the services of Nathan, who has been much sought after as one of the most promising young players in the country.

“We believe he will be an excellent addition and we see his signing as an ideal start to our summer’s business and the new collaborative approach to transfer activity now in place at the club, through our technical committee that involves the manager and his coaching staff, the scouting and recruitment teams, along with our data analytics department.”

Career So Far

Collins came through the academy at Stoke and went on to make 49 appearances for the club – 39 of which came in the Championship.

The defender has been capped up to U21 level by the Republic of Ireland and started his career with Dublin-based side Cherry Orchard, having been born in the town of Leixlip close to the Irish capital.

Collins became Stoke’s youngest-ever captain when he led the team out against Leeds United in the 2019/20 season.
