Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken about links between his club and Erling Haaland, saying it is “not right” for him to comment on speculation, and that Haaland will “make his own mind up”
Solskjaer Coy on Erling Haaland Rumours
Haaland Will ‘Make His Own Mind Up’
After news broke that Haaland’s agent and father had met with representatives of both Barcelona and Real Madrid yesterday, Solskjaer was asked about the potential of linking up with the striker he managed at Molde as a teenager.
Speaking ahead of United’s clash with Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, the United boss did not want to open up on the club’s interest in a potential move for Haaland.
He said: “I’m focusing on the next two months and whatever happens in the world of football, there’s only so many places anyone can go to”
“My focus is on the ones who are here and, even though I worked with Erling, it’s not right for me as Manchester United manager to talk about Erling. He will make his own mind up.”
“I think the way the world works at the moment, you’d like to do all your business on the quiet and all your talks on the quiet, but there are platforms everywhere. The news and the media make that more difficult. Hopefully, we can suddenly sit here with players no one has written about.”
The United boss hinted that any move by his club for the 20-year-old will not be well known among the media.
Solskjaer said: “We conduct our recruitment business, scouting, the players that we are interested in, we do it the right way, I hope and feel.”
United Must Commit to Solskjaer
With news recently circulating that Solskjaer is set to receive a new contract, the club must believe in the direction he is taking the club in.
If the Norweigan is to bring the club to where United fans believe it should be, reinforcements are necessary. World-class quality will likely be needed to stop Manchester City from dominating domestically again next season.
Haaland being sought after by most major European clubs means the challenge of luring him to Old Trafford will certainly be demanding. The club must be willing to throw a blank cheque to Borussia Dortmund, who proved last summer they are not willing to negotiate on United’s terms.
Of United’s potential marquee signings this summer, few are likely to have the impact that Haaland can. If the club is serious about returning to the top of the Premier League and winning trophies with Solskjaer at the helm, they need to back him by doing everything they can to bring Haaland in.
