Arsenal Injury Updates: Rob Holding, Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe

Arsenal could be boosted by the return of Rob Holding this weekend, whilst Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe are also set to travel, according to Football.London.

Confidence will be high around the Emirates after Arsenal booked their spot in the Last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday night, dramatically edging out Benfica 4-3 on aggregate.

However, and as they have found over the years, Thursday night football does not allow the Gunners a sufficient amount of time to rest before Premier League action at the weekend.

Arsenal do seem to be in a relatively strong position on the injury front, though, and are nearing a fully fit squad for Saturday’s trip to Leicester City.

Rob Holding Expected to Make a Return on Sunday

Rob Holding made history last weekend, becoming the Premier League’s first concussion substitute. The notion of sparing a substitution for a player who may be concussed has been implemented to tackle the number of individuals who continue playing when they have sustained an injury to the head.

The centre-back has followed all the correct protocols and subsequently missed Arsenal’s Europa League victory on Thursday, but is expected to make a return against Leicester.

The club have since released a statement reading: “Rob is available for selection following the successful completion of concussion protocol.

“Since being substituted last Sunday, Rob has been feeling well at all times and has been closely monitored by our medical team every day at London Colney, where he completed his return to play assessments.

“Rob returned to full training with the squad on Saturday.”

Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe Injury Updates

Despite there being a little uncertainty after the pair were substituted off against Benfica, Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe are both set to be available for the visit to the Midlands.

The rapidly progressing duo have played a lot of football under Mikel Arteta and whilst it has been instrumental to their growth, there is a risk that all this game time could catch up with them and result in injury.
