Robert Sanchez Has Enjoyed a Breakthrough Campaign
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign after making his Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspur in November, and has now kept six clean sheets in 14 league appearances.
Head coach Graham Potter told brightonandhovealbion.com: “We’re really pleased Robert has committed his long-term future to the club, after some impressive performances since his debut last year.
“Robert has already shown what an exciting prospect he is, with a great attitude and mentality. He has adjusted quickly to the Premier League, and we believe he has all the attributes to develop into a top-class goalkeeper.
“Credit is also due to Ben Roberts and Casper Ankergren, the club’s goalkeeping coaches, who, along with a number of staff in our academy, have helped Rob and guided him through his development. We are looking forward to working with Rob and helping him continue with his development.”
Progressed Through the Ranks at Brighton
Sanchez progressed through the ranks with Albion after working his way up through the club’s U18 and U23 sides.
He also had loan spells with Forest Green Rovers and Rochdale on his pathway to the Seagulls first team.
The Spaniard is now the first-choice keeper at the Amex after ousting the previously established number one, Mathew Ryan.
His impressive performances in between the sticks have drawn plenty of plaudits, which include those from legendary former Spain and Real Madrid shot-stopper Iker Casillas.
He is reportedly being monitored by both Spain and England, and is eligible to feature for both nations after joining the Seagulls at a young age.
Brighton are next in action away at fellow strugglers West Bromwich Albion on February 27, and will be aiming to bounce back from a bitterly disappointing 2-1 defeat to arch rivals Crystal Palace on February 22.
