Bristol City Could Look to Nigel Pearson for Inspiration

Nigel Pearson Could Help Turn Bristol City Around

Pearson has not held a managerial role since leaving Watford in July 2020, but he could help to steady what is a sinking Bristol City ship.

Bristol City sacked Dean Holden after six defeats in all competitions. The club haven’t won a Championship match for almost a month.

They sit 15th, ten points off AFC Bournemouth and the promotion places. Ten points is also the gap between the Robins and the relegation zone.

Club owner Steve Lansdown felt that he had no choice but to sack Holden to try to turn this poor position around.

He said: “It hurts, it just hurts. I want Bristol City to be successful. I want us to be in the Premier League and when these sort of things happen, you realise you are nowhere near it, and that’s a big disappointment.

“Everybody can blame anybody, but I take the blame, it is me, we haven’t got it right and to get where we want to get to, we have got to get it right.

“We have got a good squad of players, good players on the pitch, we have to get them motivated and playing with confidence and really enjoying their football again.

Pearson’s Track Record

In comparison to the outgoing manager, Holden, Pearson has experience of winning titles and getting teams promoted at different levels of the game.

He’s achieved promotion with Leicester City, and has won titles both as a player and a manager.

But in his last job, he could not save Watford from relegation, forced to walk the plank before they eventually sunk back down to the Championship.

John Percy reports that whilst negiotiations are ongoing, there is no deal in place yet between Nigel Pearson and Bristol City.
