Plymouth Argyle have confirmed that they have signed Sam Woods on loan from Crystal Palace until the end of the season.
Sam Woods Joins Plymouth Argyle on Loan
More First-Team Experience
The move to Plymouth will provide further first-team experience for the 22-year-old. He has been on the periphery of the first-team squad since his debut in 2018, but is yet to break down the barriers to become a regular in Roy Hodgson’s squad.
Woods has made four appearances for Palace during his time at Selhurst Park, all of which have come in domestic cup competitions. After making his debut in 2018 against Middlesbrough as a substitute, Woods’ first start came against Colchester United in August 2019 in the League Cup.
After that first start, Woods signed a new two-year deal in October 2019. As a result, the move to Home Park will offer the 22-year-old the chance to earn a new contract with the Premier League side, or equally earn himself a move away.
This is his second move away from Selhurst Park – he made three appearances for Hamilton Academical last season in the Scottish Premiership, scoring his first senior goal.
What Was Said?
Speaking about his new signing to the official Plymouth Argyle website, manager Ryan Lowe said: “Sam comes highly recommended to us, he’s got experience in the SPL from last season.
“He’s well thought of at Crystal Palace and has been involved with their first-team and made a number of senior appearances, as well as captaining their under-23 side.
“Scott Dann [Crystal Palace centre-back], who I know quite well, gave us a great reference on Sam, he could not speak highly enough of him.
“Sam is excited by the opportunity of joining Argyle, he provides quality and competition for places, and I feel he is a very good addition to the group.”
