Andrew Surman Extends MK Dons Contract

Surman ‘Pleased’ With New Deal

On his new deal, Surman said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time with the club so I’m pleased to commit until the end of the season.

“I hadn’t played too much football before coming here but I’ve slowly found my fitness and really enjoyed being a part of things here.

“I don’t think I could be at a better club, especially in League One, to play the way I want to play.

“We’ve had a good month or so in terms of results so things are certainly looking promising and it’s a good thing to be a part of.”

An Impressive Start

For MK Dons to have managed to sign Surman in the first place says a lot about the club’s ambition under young manager Russell Martin.

The 34-year-old was playing in the Premier League as recently as last season for Bournemouth, leaving the Cherries following their relegation to the Championship.

Nobody would have been surprised to have seen Surman picked up by a second-tier club, but to join a mid-table League One side was a shock.

While yet to complete a full game, the South Africa-born midfielder has shown his class where needed, providing an assist in the 2-0 win against Bristol Rovers and generally standing out amonst the rest of the players on the pitch.

Control and Composure

Dons boss Martin was just as delighted to secure Surman’s services for the rest of the campaign.

He said: “Andrew has really started to show what he’s about in the last few games, now that he’s getting back to match fitness after a long time out.

“He gives us so much control and so much composure in the middle of the pitch. He brings an air of calm and assurance to the team. He very rarely loses the ball and he always knows what the situation is. I know that the other players like playing with him.

“He’s really bought into what we’re doing here and I know he’s really enjoying his time here. I’m really pleased that Andrew is staying and I’m sure the fans will be too.”
