Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that they have signed former Aston Villa winger Andre Green.
The 22-year-old has been without a club since leaving Villa Park last summer. According to Dom Howson of Yorkshire Live, he has signed an 18-month contract.
Sheffield Wednesday Sign Andre Green
Lack of Opportunities With Aston Villa
Green suffered as a result of the development of Villa star Jack Grealish during his time with the club. He was sent out on loan several times before his release last summer.
Last season saw him enjoy a successful loan spell with Charlton Athletic in the Championship. He made 14 appearances, registering two goals and one assist.
During his time with Villa, the 22-year-old featured regularly for them in the Championship. Green made 43 appearances for the club in the second division, but struggled with his end product.
However, Green was part of the side who helped Villa return to the Premier League. He started the second leg against West Bromwich Albion before coming on in the semi-final.
Wednesday will be hoping that their first signing of the January window can help them in their battle against relegation. They are currently 21st in the Championship, level on points with Derby County in the relegation zone.
However, they have seen an upturn in form in recent games. They are unbeaten in their last five in all competitions, including a 1-0 win over relegation rivals Derby last time out in the league.
The Owls will be hoping that Green can improve on his end product to help fire them up the Championship table. They have lacked threat in goalscoring situations, having scored just 15 goals so far this season. As a result, they will be hoping that this can improve during the second half of the season.
Wednesday are next in action away to Everton in the FA Cup.
