Brighton & Hove Albion have moved one step closer to signing Moises Caicedo after agreeing a fee with Independiente del Valle. Fabrizio Romano reports that the two sides have agreed a €6 million sum for the midfielder, who had once been a target for a host of other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United.

Seagulls Confident of Completing Deal

The agreement of the fee with the Ecuadorian clubs has left Brighton confident that they can complete the deal for the promising teenager.

Graham Potter’s side are now just waiting for a work permit for Caicedo before they can complete the transfer.

Manchester United had been long-term admirers of Caicedo while Everton had also emerged as candidates to land his signature in recent weeks.

Chelsea had also been credited with an interest in the 19-year-old, while Romano reports that Newcastle United have been trying to secure a deal with him for the last few days.

Brighton, though, are leading the way and should get the deal done comfortably before the end of the January transfer window.

The work permit is not expected to be an issue. When Caicedo was being heavily linked with Manchester United, journalist James Nalton gave a breakdown of the work permit points Caicedo had under the new requirements following Britain’s exit from the European Union.

Should Caicedo arrive on the South Coast this month, it could be to replace Ivory Coast international Yves Bissouma.

The 24-year-old has reportedly held early discussions with Arsenal about a potential move to the Emirates.

Bissouma joined Brighton in 2018 from Lille and has gone on to make 73 appearances for the club so far.
