Stevenage Have Next Two Matches Suspended Due to Positive COVID-19 Test

League Two side Stevenage have seen their next two matches suspended after a positive COVID-19 case was confirmed in their squad. The team’s matches against Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday, December 15 and Exeter City on Saturday, December 19, will now be rescheduled and played at a later date.

Next Two Stevenage Matches Suspended Due to Positive COVID-19 Case

Club Statement

In a statement, Stevenage said: “The club informed the EFL that they would be unable to fulfil the fixtures following a recent positive COVID-19 test and the requirement for players and staff to self-isolate for 10 days as per EFL and Government guidance in order to mitigate against the risk of further infection.

“The circumstances surrounding the postponements will now be the subject of an investigation in accordance with EFL Regulations.”

Stevenage Avoid Tier 3

While some of Stevenage’s near-neighbours in Hertfordshire and Essex have been put into Tier 3 based on the Government’s new system, Stevenage have avoided the same fate meaning that when their matches resume they will still be able to welcome fans into the Lamex Stadium.

Four local authorities in the west of Hertfordshire, Broxbourne, Watford, Hertsmere and Three Rivers, will join London and parts of South and West Essex in the highest tier from this Wednesday.

Stevenage, though, remains in tier 2, meaning they can allow up to 2,000 fans into their home matches.

Boro welcomed fans back to the ground earlier this month when they played out a goalless draw with fellow strugglers Southend United. They then had to endure a crowd away from home on a difficult day in the North West when they were thumped 4-0 at Carlisle United last weekend.
