Jose Mourinho Has Tottenham Hotspur Starting to Believe

Jose Mourinho

When Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy brought Jose Mourinho to north London, he knew exactly what he was getting: a winner.

Jose Mourinho Has Tottenham Hotspur Believing

Mourinho Bringing His Trademark Mentality

While last season was one of transition for the Lilywhites, the squad is one that now looks like they are all singing from the same hymn sheet, and Mourinho is, of course, the conductor. Challenging at the top end of the table, Spurs have made a strong start to the season, and are 5/1 to win the Premier League title in the Space Casino football betting.

Few should be surprised by what Mourinho has been able to achieve in a relatively short period of time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since his arrival in November 2019. Even during his somewhat turbulent time at Manchester United, the Portuguese tactician was still able to win the EFL Cup, Community Shield and Europa League, while they also finished runners-up in the Premier League and FA Cup. In fact, many United fans might be wondering what might have been had the club decided to keep hold of Mourinho, considering the Red Devils are looking up the table at Spurs.

Former Tottenham head coach Tim Sherwood has come up with the idea the Spurs’ players have been “brainwashed” by Mourinho, and you can see what he means. The ‘Special One’ has made a career on the back of building a winning culture and mentality while getting all his players to buy into the process. Those that don’t, tend to be given their marching orders pretty swiftly if they’re not phased out.

Many eyebrows were raised when Spurs allowed Christian Eriksen to move on to pastures new after being such a key, creative figure in the Tottenham midfield for so many seasons. Now the Danish international is struggling for game time in the Serie A with Inter Milan and possibly wishing he had stuck it out under Mourinho in north London.

Spurs Learning to Win Ugly

What seems to have changed at Tottenham this season is their ability to come out on top the games they are expected to win. While Spurs recorded an impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester City before the last international break of 2020, we have seen Tottenham win in some of these big games in the past, whereas we have instead seen Spurs fall flat on their faces is in the games against supposedly weaker sides.

In seasons gone by, Tottenham might have drawn or even lost games against the likes of Burnley, Brighton & Hove Albion and West Bromwich Albion. This season they found a way to claim all nine points from those three encounters, before that big win against Pep Guardiola’s City side. It has not been pretty at times, but grinding out wins, when a side is not playing their best football, is what makes champions.

If Spurs can keep their key players fighting fit for the majority of the season, then this might be a campaign to remember for Tottenham fans with Jose at the wheel.
