REPORT: Joe Rodon Tottenham Hotspur Move Unlikely to Happen Before Transfer Window Shuts

Joe Rodon

Swansea City defender Joe Rodon looks set to remain at the club – despite firm interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Swansea and Tottenham Fail to Agree Price for Joe Rodon

Championship Side Value Wales International at £20 Million

According to Alasdair Gold, the biggest obstacle to any deal is the valuation of the centre-back.

While Swansea are looking for at least £20 million, Spurs value the 22-year-old at £8 million.

However, a differing report from David Ornstein states that Spurs are willing to pay around £10 million, with the Swans wanting around £15 million to part with him.

Spurs have added Spain international Sergio Reguilon for £27 million this transfer window, as well as Matt Doherty from Wolverhampton Wanderers for around £13 million.

The North London club are unwilling to pay a fee for a player who is untested at Premier League level.

Should he join Spurs, Rodon would most likely be a bit-part player this season at least.

Spurs’ interest in Rodon comes after a move for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar didn’t get over the line – once again due to differences over a fee. However, the Slovakian would have been in contention for a starting place and cost considerably more money at around £60 million.

Joe Rodon Must Keep Performing Despite Move Falling Through

However, a dream move to the Premier League is still on the cards for Joe Rodon – Tottenham are believed to be interested in making another bid in January.

Swansea head coach Steve Cooper has reiterated that the club must receive a fee which reflects Rodon’s talent.

If, as expected, he does not make the move to Tottenham, Rodon must continue to perform at Championship level.

He should avoid the path taken by former West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino. After his move to Spurs fell through, his performances dipped considerably.

A top-six Premier League club never sought his services again.

Rodon is already a Wales international and impressed during the recent international break. If he continues to hit those same performance levels over the next couple of months, he will end up in the top division.
