REPORT: Wolverhampton Wanderers to Sign Ki-Jana Hoever From Liverpool

Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to sign Liverpool youngster Ki-Jana Hoever on a permanent deal, per Tim Spiers of The Athletic and The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope. The teenage Dutchman is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Reds but has impressed at youth team level and in limited cup appearances. It is reported that Wolves will play £10 million for the 18-year-old.

What Wolves are Getting

Despite being just 18, Hoever’s name has been known to Liverpool fans for almost two years now. He was a surprise inclusion on the bench in an FA Cup match, ironically against Wolves, in January 2019. However, within minutes of the game starting, he was brought on after an early injury to Dejan Lovren.

His appearance made him Liverpool’s youngest ever player in the FA Cup and their third youngest ever.

Hoever’s first-team minutes were limited to cup competitions, making three last season (one in the FA Cup and two in the Carabao Cup). One of those Carabao Cup performances came with his first professional goal – a brilliant header in the 2-0 away win at League One side MK Dons.

The teenager is clearly talented but it’s unlikely he will go straight into the Wolves side – their right-back berth is currently open due to the sale of Matt Doherty to Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Wolves have also been linked with a move for Sheffield United defender George Baldock. If this move was completed, Baldock would be the first-choice ahead of Hoever, who would instead look to gain minutes in the cup competitions and as a back-up.
