Coventry City have confirmed that they defender Leo Ostigard on a season-long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Leo Ostigard Joins Coventry City
First Experience of the EFL
A move to Coventry will offer the young Norwegian a first taste of EFL football.
The 20-year-old began his career with Norwegian club Molde. He made just one appearance for them, before joining lower league Norwegian side Viking FK the following season.
Ostigard then moved to England to join Brighton in the summer of 2018.
However, after a spell with the Seagulls’ U23 side, the Norwegian then headed out on loan, joining German club St Pauli. He made 28 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga last season, before returning to Brighton earlier this summer.
What Was Said?
Speaking about his new signing to the Coventry City website, manager Mark Robins said: “I’m deligthed to welcome Leo to the Club.
“He’s a player with brilliant pedigree, he’s one of the top players for his age in European football.
“Again it demonstrates the policy we’ve got at the Club – bringing in young players to help with their careers, help them develop and help us to achieve our objectives during a season.
“It’s an exciting signing – he’s a top young player and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Upon the Norwegian’s departure from the Amex Stadium, the Brighton technical director Dan Ashworth said: “Leo has done well during pre-season, on the back of a really impressive spell with St Pauli last season; one which sparked a lot of interest both here and abroad.
“The Championship has been an excellent testing ground for some of our young players in recent years and we want to see Leo to make the most of this opportunity.
“Playing in the Championship presents a different challenge to what he would have experienced last season in Germany. We’re looking forward to see how he adapts and we wish him well.”
