The Deal
A deal for the 28-year-old to move to North London will be worth £12 million in up-front costs, according to the report. Including add-ons, the deal is set to be worth around £15 million.
Doherty is a key priority for Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho as he looks to strengthen in a problem area for Spurs.
Tottenham have already seen Kyle Walker-Peters depart this summer. The 23-year-old joined Southampton earlier this summer.
As a result, that leaves the North London club with Serge Aurier has their only natural right-back. However, they are reportedly looking to sell the Ivorian, with AC Milan one of the clubs linked with a move.
Doherty has proven himself to be an excellent Premier League right-back for Wolves since their return. He has rarely missed a game in the top-flight, featuring in 74 of their 76 games since their promotion in 2018.
Furthermore, the Irishman has been utilised in his role as a wing-back, showing his ability going forward as well as defensively. The 28-year-old registered six goals and four assists last season; in the previous campaign, he scored eight goals in all competitions.
Do Wolves Already Have a Replacement Lined-Up?
With Doherty set for a move to North London, Wolves’ replacement could be coming from the other side of North London.
Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to add Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles to his squad at Molineux. The versatile 22-year-old prefers to play in central midfield, but can also operate as a right-back.
Wolves have already seen one bid rejected by the Gunners. However, a deal is close to being agreed.
