Brighton & Hove Albion captain Lewis Dunk has extended his stay with the Seagulls, signing a new five-year deal with the club.
Lewis Dunk Extends Stay With Brighton & Hove Albion
Club Legend
The 28-year-old has become a mainstay at the heart of the Brighton defence, and has established himself as a club legend in the process.
Dunk came through the Seagulls’ academy, making his debut when they were a League One club.
He was slowly integrated into the first-team set-up, truly becoming a regular in the 2014/15 season. However, since then, he has not looked back, making 240 appearances over the last six years.
The ever-present defender has adapted to Premier League life superbly, missing only a handful of top-flight fixtures. The club-captain’s performances have seen him linked with a move to Chelsea earlier in the window, however, that now appears unlikely.
What Was Said?
Speaking about extending his stay on the South Coast, Dunk said: “I’m delighted to have signed a new contract.
“The aim now is to build on a record Premier League season and help the club continue its recent progress over the next five years.”
Brighton boss Graham Potter praised the 28-year-old’s work on and off the pitch when speaking to the official Brighton & Hove Albion website.
“We’re absolutely delighted that Lewis has made this long-term commitment to the club,” he said. “It’s fantastic news for everyone: the club, the supporters, the team and myself.”
“Since I came to the club he’s been a joy to work with and he’s a top player. We are very lucky to have him.
“I think his role as captain is one he’s grown into and one he will do better and better for the next few years.
“He leads by example on the pitch and he’s a good lad off it – a delight to work with.
“We’re all determined to push on next season and establish the club in the Premier League and I’m really pleased that Lewis will be with us on that journey.”
