Celtic Sign West Ham United Striker Albian Ajeti

Celtic have completed the signing of Switzerland striker Albian Ajeti from West Ham United.

Ajeti arrives inn a deal worth £4.5 million after just one year at the London Stadium. The move was confirmed on the club’s official website.

The 23-year-old former Basel man has signed a four-year contract at Celtic Park after making 12 appearances without scoring for the Hammers since his arrival last year.

The striker will link back up with a former teammate in Celtic winger Mohamed Elyounoussi. The two played together at Basel when Ajeti finished top goalscorer in the Swiss league during the 2017/18 season.

Hoops boss Neil Lennon told the club website: ”We are delighted to bring Albian to Celtic. He is a tremendous player, an international with real quality and I know he is really determined to do all he can to bring more success to our supporters.”

He continued: “I have admired him for a long time as he is a really intelligent footballer, well balanced and a really good finisher. We are so pleased to make him a Celtic player and we hope he has a long and prosperous career with us.”

The striker joined West Ham from Basel in 2019 for a fee of around £8 million. He found life tough at the Hammers, and his only starts came in cup competitions.

Ajeti has appeared ten times for his country, scoring once. He came through the youth ranks at Basel but had loan spells with Augsburg in the Bundesliga as well as Swiss Super League rivals St Gallen, before returning to St Jakob-Park in 2017.

The Swiss international arrives following the departure of Celtic striker Vakoun Bayo, who left this week on a one-year loan deal to French Ligue 1 club Toulouse.

Bhoys boss Lennon will be delighted to get Ajeti through the door at Celtic Park. He has made little secret of his desire to bring in another striker recently as he plots his squad’s pursuit of an unprecedented tenth consecutive Scottish Premiership title.
