REPORT: Leicester City Make Opening Offer For Francisco Trincao

According to Fabrizio Romano, Leicester City have made an opening bid for new Barcelona forward Francisco Trincao.

The offer was a loan move with an obligation to buy for a total of €50 million. However, no agreement has been made with Barcelona, with talks still ongoing.  Many other clubs are also still interested in the Portuguese U21 international.

Recent Move to Barcelona for Trincao

Considering that Trincao only became a Barcelona player on the July 1, it would be surprising to see the Portuguese forward leave on a permanent deal. However, it wouldn’t be all that shocking to see the youngster go out on loan to get more playing time.

After announcing in January that a move had been agreed with Braga for €31 million, the forward remained with the Portuguese side till the end of this season, helping them to a third-place finish in the Liga NOS.

Significant Role for Braga in 2020

2020 has seen the youngster breakthrough into the Braga first team as a regular starter. Since the new year, he has played in every game in the league for the Portuguese club.

In that time he played a part in 15 goals for the Portuguese club, scoring eight and assisting seven.

Barcelona Squad Depth

Barcelona currently have seven forwards in their squad, and the addition for the 20-year-old will make that eight. Although it looks like Barcelona are looking to offload Philippe Coutinho, this will still leave Trincao battling for places with Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, Luis Suarez, Ousmane Dembele, Ansu Fati and Alex Collado.

With the depth that Barcelona have upfront, letting the Portuguese youngster leave on loan is probably the most logical move for Barcelona as well as the player. With talks still ongoing with Leicester, it is still certainly possible that we see this wonderkid in the Premier League next season.
