Stevenage Sign Romain Vincelot in Sixth Summer Transfer
Romain Vincelot Adds to Journeyman Career
Vincelot began his career in France, his first senior club Chamois Niortais. He stayed there for four seasons in Ligue 2 and the Championnat National. In 2010 he moved to Dagenham and Redbridge after being released by his second French club Gueugnon.
The player would go on to play in the Championship with Brighton & Hove Albion, before clubs such as Gillingham, Leyton Orient, Coventry City, Bradford City, Crawley Town and Shrewsbury Town.
Thus, he has made over 300 appearances in England, scoring 28 goals. 12 of those goals for Dagenham and Redbridge were enough for him to finish the season as the club’s top scorer. One of his biggest goals was scoring the winner for Leyton Orient against Aston Villa in the League Cup in 2014.
Stevenage Look to Strengthen as Relegation Beckons
Stevenage currently sit at the very bottom of the Football League on 22 points. Both League One and League Two had been ended early due to the coronavirus outbreak. There was initially some hope for the club, due to the fact that Macclesfield Town might have received further points deductions due to their financial issues.
However, is now seems that Stevenage are doomed to relegation. Chairman Steve Wallace criticised the way in which the season was curtailed.
“The fairer way would have been for one or two clubs to come up from the National League and go to 25 clubs for one season…[t]hen put that right next season in terms of balancing the numbers again.
Vincelot Eager for Fresh Start
Vincelot is eager to get stuck in at his new club.
“It is great,” he said. “I spoke to the Manager a few weeks ago and I couldn’t wait for this moment because it is the start of something good I think. For me it is important to have the opportunity to enjoy playing again. I just can’t wait.”
