Lovren Could Be Leaving Anfield This Summer

Lovren is wanted by the Russian Premier League champions, who may move for the defender this summer.

The Times’ Paul Joyce reports that Zenit were interested in signing the Croatian centre-back.

Having made just 15 appearances during the Reds’ title-winning season, Lovren is well down the pecking order at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp has favoured Joe Gomez and Joel Matip as central defenders to accompany Virgil van Dijk this campaign.

Now 31-years-old and soon to have a Premier League winners medal to hang on the mantlepiece, Lovren may look to head to pastures new.

Zenit Express Interest in Dejan Lovren

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Russian club have expressed an interest in the Croatian international but are yet to make any contact with the Premier League champions.

Zenit, who have stormed to the league title this season, currently sit 15 points clear with two games to play. Ex-Chelsea players Yuri Zhirkov and Branislav Ivanovic both play for the club, with the latter being club captain.

Lovren Can Leave Anfield a Happy Man

If Lovren does leave Merseyside this summer, then he can do so having won both domestic and continental titles.

An unused substitute at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid last June, the Croatian defender has racked up 185 appearances over six years at the club.

He signed for the club in 2014 from fellow Premier League side Southampton for a fee of £20 million. He joined Saints teammates Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert in making the move up north to join Brendan Rodgers’ side.

During his stay at Anfield, in which he has netted eight times and earnt five assists, he also made it to the 2018 World Cup final with the Croatian national side.
