Staying a Don
Lewington has been a stalwart in the MK Dons side ever since their first season as a team back in 2004/05. He has been part of a stadium move and seen countless managerial changes at the club, but nothing has been able to dislodge the captain from his spot at left-back.
The 2017/18 season under Robbie Neilson looked as though it could have been his last, with the Scotsman seemingly intent on overhauling the squad and bringing a fresher look to the team. However, when he was relieved of his duties, Lewington was slowly brought back into the team under Dan Micciche and he went on to be a core part of the team under Paul Tisdale in 2018/19, arguably having his best season to date.
Lewington was part of the inaugural MK Dons team against Barnsley back in 2004 having moved with the club from Wimbledon. He was also part of the team that won the club’s first league title in 2007/08 and played at Wembley in the successful Johnstone’s Paint Trophy campaign of the same season.
He has played in all divisions of the EFL with the Dons, featuring in all 46 of their Championship games in 2015/16 and finding the net against Queens Park Rangers.
Many have tried to dislodge Lewington from the left-back spot but none of the competition have been successful. His role looks to be the same this year too, with only Matthew Sorinola as back-up currently.
