Promotion is within touching distance at Elland Road. A win for Leeds United over Luton Town would take them six points clear of nearest rivals West Bromwich Albion.
However, the Hatters are also fighting for their own cause. They are just three points off of safety, meaning it could be an enthralling encounter between the two sides.
Leeds United Looking to Move One Step Closer to Promotion Against Luton Town
Recent Form
The visitors should not be taken lightly by Marcelo Bielsa and Leeds.
Luton travel to Elland Road with just one defeat in their last eight games. That defeat came before the suspension of football, a 3-1 defeat to Charlton Athletic.
The Hatters returned following the three-month hiatus under a new manager, following the re-appointment of Nathan Jones. He has started life at Kenilworth Road in excellent form, with one win and one draw.
Leeds, however, returned to their rampant ‘pre-lockdown’ form with a 3-0 win over promotion rivals Fulham on Saturday. Following their defeat to Cardiff City, Bielsa’s side returned to Elland Road with a destructive performance against their promotion rivals.
It meant they had lost just one of their last eight games, conceding just three goals during that run.
Head to Head
Leeds stole the points from Luton at Kenilworth Road earlier this season after a 90th minute own goal.
The win in November extended their unbeaten run of five games against the Hatters in all competitions.
Before their meeting earlier this season, the last league game between the two sides was in 2008, when the points were shared following a late equaliser from Luton from Sam Parkin.
Team News
Pablo Hernandez proved pivotal from the bench in Leeds’ 3-0 over Fulham. The Spaniard – who started on the bench following his return from injury – provided the assist for Leeds’ third goal and coordinated attacks well, according to Marcelo Bielsa.
There is no fresh injury concerns for Nathan Jones following their 1-0 win away to Swansea City at the weekend.
Prediction
Patience will be key for the hosts. Luton will be hoping to take the points through defensive hard work and grittiness.
However, Marcelo Bielsa’s side should prove too strong for the visitors, and edge one step closer to the Premier League with a win.
