Contribution to a Successful Season
Canavan made 38 appearances in all competitions this season as Plymouth won promotion from League Two. Ryan Lowe’s side came third, behind Swindon Town and Crewe Alexandra, as the table was decided on points-per-game.
The 29-year-old helped the Pilgrims keep 14 clean sheets in the league and he was a consistent performer too, featuring in every minute of league action from October 10 onwards.
He also netted twice this season, the first being a crucial 96th-minute winner in the home match against Stevenage at the end of 2019.
What Was Said?
Speaking about the defender signing on, manager Lowe told the club website: “We are really pleased for Naz, he has been a big member of the squad that won promotion last year.”
“He has shown the qualities he brings to the team in the past 12 months, and we want that to continue in League One next year.”
Canavan joins Plymouth youngster Luke Jephcott in extending his stay with the club. The teenager, who finished as the club’s second-top scorer, had his extension announced earlier this week.
In addition, new deals for wing-back Ryan Law, midfielder Adam Randell and striker Klaidi Lolos were announced last week.
All three had loan spells in non-league this season but are seen as a big part of the future at the Devon-based club.
Plymouth have not disclosed the length of Canavan’s new deal.
