Newport County will not be offering new deals to any of their out-of-contract players due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Newport County Release Five Players

Who’s On the Way Out?

The club says that the decision to not offer new deals is due specifically to “the economic impact on the club, uncertainty of when we will return to playing football in front of crowds and not knowing when season 2020-21 will commence.”

Striker Jamille Matt was part of the team that reached the League Two play-off final last season. He also scored in the club’s historic 2-1 win over Leicester City in the FA Cup. However, he will leave the South Wales side in search of a new club.

Also departing is fellow striker Dominic Poleon, who has not spent more than one year at a club since his two-year stint at Oldham Athletic between 2014 and 2016. Poleon leaves having not score for the club, and he spent the second half of the campaign on loan in the National League with Dover Athletic.

Midfielder Scot Bennett leaves after four years of service at the club. The 29-year-old has made over 130 appearances for the Exiles since joining from Notts County in 2016.

Finally, Jay Foulston and Momodou Touray will be on the lookout for new clubs as they too will be leaving Newport.

Loans Finished

Six players will also return to their parent clubs after their loan spells with Newport came to an end.

Dale Gorman spent the second half of the season on loan from Leyton Orient while Jordan Green returns to Championship club Barnsley.

Ryan Innis and Otis Khan will go back to Crystal Palace and Mansfield Town respectively while George Nurse heads back to Bristol City and Billy Waters goes back to Northampton Town.
