Antoni Sarcevic to Leave Plymouth Argyle in the Summer

Plymouth Argyle midfielder Antoni Sarcevic is leaving the League Two club in the summer after three-and-a-half years in Cornwall.

The 28-year-old tweeted his decision earlier today, while Chris Errington for the Plymouth Herald also broke the news.

Three-and-a-half Years at Home Park

The midfielder joined Plymouth in January 2017 after he was released from Shrewsbury Town. The 28-year-old, who was named Plymouth Argyle Player of the Year last season, has scored 21 goals from 130 appearances for the Pilgrims.

But it was this season where the midfielder really shone. He netted 11 goals from just 36 appearances as Plymouth secured promotion from League Two following their relegation last season. He ended the season as the clubs top goalscorer.

Rumour Surrounding Salford City Move

Both Errington and manager Ryan Lowe have confirmed that League Two side Salford City have shown interest in the midfielder.

Although it would result in the 28-year-old staying in League Two, it would locate the Manchester-born man closer to his family.

However, Sarcevic has worked under Salford City boss Graham Alexander before. The pair were at Fleetwood Town when the midfielder scored the winning goal in the League Two playoff final against Burton Albion in 2014.

Ryan Lowe on Sarcevic Departure

Manager Lowe was told by the midfielder that he wouldn’t be renewing his contract in the summer.

Lowe told the clubs official website: “We respect Sarce’s decision – it was a family decision. He wanted to get back closer to home, and we can understand that.

“It would not have been an easy choice for him to make. We thank Sarce for the impact he had at the club, and we wish him all the best moving forward. As I have always said – if you choose move on, no problem – that’s football.”
