Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder says he expects on-loan goalkeeper Dean Henderson to agree a short-term extension to his deal. Henderson, who is on loan from fellow Premier League club Manchester United, should then be available to play against Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Wilder’s Press Conference

As the Premier League gears up for its return this week, with the Blades’ trip to Villa the first game to take place, Wilder was the focus of a press conference this morning held over Zoom.

The future of Henderson was among the topics discussed, and it was Wilder who confirmed that he had spoken to Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about keeping a hold on Henderson for the remaining fixtures.

He said: “I spoke to Ole yesterday morning and I thanked him for his co-operation with Dean.

“We’re in a situation where Dean will hopefully agree a deal to stay until the end of the season in the coming days.”

Beyond This Season

Henderson has had an excellent season with Sheffield United, featuring heavily in their first season back in the top-flight. He also received his first call-up to the senior England team, replacing the injured Tom Heaton for their Euro 2020 qualifier against the Czech Republic.

There’s no doubt that the Blades will want to keep a hold of someone of Henderson’s quality, though Wilder has suggested that as much as he would like to see the 23-year-old at Bramall Lane next season, the decision does not rest with him.

He said: “We have had early conversations and of course we be open to Dean coming back.

“But he is a Manchester United player and they will make that decision.

“If there is an opportunity we would look to take that up.”
