REPORT: Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Newcastle United Enter Race for Kai Havertz

Havertz

Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Newcastle United are the latest clubs to show interest in Kai Havertz according to Christian Falk at Sports Bild.

The 21-year-old continues to attract plenty of interest from across Europe. Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United have already been linked with signing Havertz this summer.

A Growing Interest in Havertz

Havertz has impressed for Bayer Leverkusen this season. The attacking midfielder has scored 11 goals and made five assists in the Bundesliga this season. He also scored five goals in four appearances since the league resumed in May.

Initially, the youngster’s excellent form attracted interest from Chelsea. However, a host of other teams are now monitoring the German international’s situation. But Chelsea will face stiff competition for Havertz’s signature due to the growing interest.

Surprise Interest from Newcastle

The most surprising development in the Havertz transfer saga comes from the reported interest from Newcastle United.

Much of the Magpies transfer activity will depend on the rumoured take over of the club by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. But the takeover is yet to be completed and remains a prospective at the moment.

Already, the Magpies have been linked with the likes of Phillipe Coutinho, Eddison Cavani and Gareth Bale in recent weeks. However, contact between the club and these players does not appear to have developed recently according to The Chronicle.

Chelsea Leading the Race

According to reports earlier this week from the Guardian and the Daily Mail, Havertz will cost in the region of £75 million. Yet Chelsea appear unflinching at the potential cost of the talented youngster and look ready to bid for the German.

Chelsea want to land the German midfielder during this window as Frank Lampard prepares for next season. It would be their third signing as Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech join the Blues next season.
