COVID-19 has hit the world of football exceedingly hard across all continents.
Europe’s top five leagues, along with almost all others worldwide, have been suspended since earlier this calendar year, with the returns behind closed doors only just starting.
Financial difficulties have not been hard to come by either, with many clubs, especially in lower leagues, having to furlough virtually all staff. And that’s not where the monetary difficulties stop, as the summer transfer market is likely to be one of the slowest, and lowest spending, in recent history.
In the past few weeks, though, the Bundesliga made its return. With no fans at the stadium and substitutes spaced out, it is certainly a new look. But, nonetheless, football is returning, and the Premier League has followed in the German top flight’s footsteps. We can expect to see the first matches back on in England on June 17.
However, despite the slow restart of the beautiful game, it is, by no means, rid of the disease.
AFC Bournemouth were among the multiple clubs with positive tests in late May, with Watford and Burnley also receiving positive results.

Tottenham have become the latest side to announce a positive test for the coronavirus. They revealed that an unnamed individual at the club had contracted the disease.
This once again brings to light the controversy of the Premier League’s restart, with many arguing that it could result in increased spreading of the virus. But, with football fans globally having been deprived of the game for months, they will undoubtedly enjoy its return.
1197 tests were conducted during the fifth round of Premier League coronavirus testing with Tottenham saying the individual is “asymptomatic” and will “self-isolate for seven days.”
A total of 12 individuals tested positive for COVID-19 out of 3882 from the initial four rounds.
