Four Players Swansea City Could Lose as Free Agents This Summer

Swansea City free transfers

As the Championship season has been put on an indefinite halt, player contracts are becoming a big issue. We highlight four key players that Swansea City could be snapped up on free transfers as their contracts expire this summer.

The Four Key Players Swansea City Could Lose as Free Agents

The Swans are guaranteed to lose the big-name loanees they currently have in their teams. Rhian Brewster will return to Liverpool. Conor Gallagher will return to Chelsea and Freddie Woodman will go back to Newcastle. Swansea will hope the season is able to continue, as they are still in with a chance of making the playoffs. However, if they are unable to do so, they must prepare for next season without the loan players, as well as potentially losing these four key players who are out of contract in the coming weeks.

Mike van der Hoorn

There’s a chance star centre back Mike van der Hoorn has played his last game for Swansea after undergoing surgery on a serious injury at the start of 2020. He is out of contract this summer and would be a huge loss for the Swans. Experience in both the Premier League and Championship and aged only 27, he will have a lot of attractive offers should he not stay put at Swansea.

Kyle Naughton

Naughton has been with the club since signing from Spurs in 2015. He has therefore had a wealth of Premier League experience and is likely to be an attractive free transfer. Although aged 31, the right back has been able to bring a balance of experience into the current youthful Swansea City side.

Nathan Dyer

With 281 appearances for Swansea over 10 years, Dyer has been a rare example of loyalty in football today. Since originally signing on loan from Southampton in 2008, Dyer has certainly made an impression in south Wales. Although he has not been used as much in recent seasons, the right winger has still chipped in and knows how to win promotion from this league, after being a part of the Swansea team that won the playoff final back in 2011.

Wayne Routledge

Another player who has been through it all with the Swans with 23 goals in 236 appearances. Routledge has been a part of the Swansea team since signing from Newcastle in 2011. Aged 35, Swansea may feel it is time to cut ties with the Winger. Despite this, it can’t be denied how important Routledge has been for Swansea over the years.

With these four key players as well as goalkeeper Erwin Mulder and additional loanees Ben Wilmot and Marc Guehi currently set to leave the club this summer, Swansea will be hoping they at least get to play out the season with the squad that currently have them in 11th place and within three points of the playoffs.
