REPORT: Willian Chelsea Contract Discussions ‘Dead in the Water’

Willian rejects contract

Chelsea are failing to agree on a suitable contract extension for Brazilian winger Willian according to Oliver Hardboard at Football. London.

The 31-year-old’s current contract expires in June and negotiations are stalling recently. This sparked interest from a number of Premier League rivals who continue to monitor the Brazilian’s ongoing situation at Chelsea.

Report: Willian and Chelsea Can’t Agree on Terms

Free-Transfer for Willian

Willian will be available to transfer for free this summer with his current contract expiring.

However, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard seems eager to keep the Brazilian at Stamford Bridge. The club reportedly offered the winger a new deal, but suitable terms cannot be agreed between the two parties. Therefore, recent negotiations are deemed “dead in the water”.

Premier League Interest

In light of the ongoing situation at Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool remain interested in signing Willian if he doesn’t extend his contract at Chelsea.

Arsenal and Spurs would be Willian’s preferred destinations according to reports. The 31-year-old settled in London with his family, while Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is keen on reuniting with the winger.

Arsenal would benefit from Willian’s experience next season and he would be a viable option for both clubs if he does not commit his future to Chelsea.

Long-term Servant

Willian represented Chelsea for seven years since his transfer from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala in 2013.

The Brazilian winger made over 300 appearances for the Blues. He scored 59 goals and made the same amount of assists for the club. Prior to the suspension of the Premier League in March, Willian played 37 games in all competitions for Chelsea.

Willian played a key role in helping Chelsea to lift the Premier League in 2015 and 2017. He also won the Europa League last season and won an FA Cup and League Cup to add to his list of honours with Chelsea.
