REPORT: David Silva Set for Valencia Return

David Silva Valencia

Manchester City captain David Silva is in talks with his former club Valencia over a return to the La Liga club this summer, Rob Dawson from ESPN reports.

However, it remains unclear whether a deal will be able to conclude between Silva and Valencia due to the impacts of coronavirus on football.

Return to Valencia

Valencia want to re-sign Silva and the club reportedly offered the Spanish midfielder a three-year deal. The 34-year-old’s contract with City expires on June 30.

However, the uncertainty over player contracts due to coronavirus is stalling negotiations between both parties.

FIFA proposed that clubs can extend player contracts until league seasons can be completed. But whether this is legally possible still remains unclear, and the decision could impact Silva’s future.

Silva spent four seasons at Valencia before joining City in 2010. City seem interested in keeping the Spanish midfielder at the Etihad next season, but Silva and his representatives will ultimately make their own decision.

Competition for Silva

Despite Valencia being strong contenders to secure Silva’s signature this summer, a host of teams from around the world are chasing the City captain.

Juventus are supposedly interested in bringing Silva to the Allianz Stadium. David Beckham‘s new franchise in America, Inter Miami, also remain interested in the Spaniard.

Silva’s City legacy

Influential playmaker Silva was instrumental in the Citizen’s most successful era over the past decade. Silva made over 400 appearances for the club in his 10-year spell.

He boasts a huge trophy collection and was the club’s player of the year in 2017. The 2010 World Cup winner helped City to win four Premier League titles, two F.A Cups and five League Cups.

Before football was suspended in March to limit the impact of coronavirus around the world, Silva played 19 games for City, making seven assists and scored three goals this season.
