Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Lazio keeper, Thomas Strakosha. While Hugo Lloris is a top keeper, he has made numerous costly mistakes this season. These include a catalogue of errors against RB Leipzig, which led to the Spurs being knocked out of the Champions League.
REPORT: Tottenham Hotspur Set to miss out Thomas Strakosha Deal
A Breakout Season for Strakosha
Strakosha has had an amazing season with Lazio so far this season, playing a key role in their title challenge against Juventus. The Albanian has 9 clean-sheets in 26 Serie A games.
He would also be a great deal because of his age. He turns 25 tomorrow, meaning he has time to grow and develop. He is already in a great place for his age, so he has amazing potential to be one of the best.
Tottenham to Miss Out
However, it seems that Tottenham will miss out on the deal. According to Tuttomercatoweb, with pressure being applied from Tottenham, Lazio have prepared a new contract for the keeper. The Serie A side doesn’t want to lose their star keeper this summer so they have raised his price to £32million.
It may also be hard to persuade the Albanian to leave as he has a great chance to be playing Champions League football next season with Lazio currently second.
Tottenham Hotspur, however, still have a chance. They are a very powerful club and that is hard to fend off. Because of the great success Strakosha has experienced so far this season, it will be even more difficult to turn away Tottenham because they will be spurred on by the knowledge of what he can do.
While Lloris has not had his best season, he is still a top keeper. It is hard to see Strakosha being placed ahead of Lloris. Strakosha is of high quality and is better equipped than a number two. Maybe in a couple of years, he will have progressed enough that he can come to the Premier League as a starter.
