Manchester United may lose star striker Anthony Martial in the summer, according to Jack Otway of The Express.
Manchester United Could Lose Star Striker Anthony Martial
Time With United So Far
Martial joined Manchester United in 2015 and has emerged as a quality player in their starting 11. He struggled to establish a constant position across the front three, but this season he seems to have settled into a centre forward role, with Marcus Rashford to his left.
He nearly joined Inter Milan in 2017 as Jose Mourinho was unhappy with his performances. However, he stayed and proved the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ wrong.
In 2019/20 he has been an especially important part of the team. When he suffered a hamstring injury that took him out for the whole of September, Rashford looked a completely different player, getting just one Premier League goal in that time. Following the Frenchman’s return, Rashford was straight back on his game, with nine goal involvements in the next eight league games.
While Martial has had a positive influence on his teammates, he has also helped them massively with his individual contribution. The 24-year-old is United’s second-highest goalscorer this season and has hit a good run of form recently with three goals in the Red Devils’ last four league games.
Why Would Martial Leave?
According to the report, Inter Milan are once again eyeing him. The Italian giants want to bring him in as a replacement for Lautaro Martinez, with Barcelona, who are big fans of the Argentinian, looking to sign him.
Martial could leave Old Trafford in the summer if United fail to complete their biggest goal of the season; qualification for the Champions League. If he does leave, the club could look to turn Odion Ighalo’s loan deal into a permanent one. Despite this, the Red Devils should do all they can to keep the Frenchman, especially considering his recent form.
