Scunthorpe United have confirmed that U23s manager Russ Wilcox will remain in charge of the first team for the rest of the season. Wilcox has taken charge of three games thus far and has collected three points.
Russ Wilcox to Remain in Charge of Scunthorpe United
Stepping Up
Wilcox replaces Paul Hurst, who was sacked at the end of January following a disappointing first half of the season. The U23s manager stepped up on a caretaker basis, but the club has now confirmed he will remain in charge of Scunthorpe’s final thirteen games of the season.
The interim manager has collected three points from three matches in charge and will continue to be assisted by Kevin Pressman, Lee Turnbull and Paul Musselwhite for the foreseeable future.
Keeping Russ Wilcox in charge allows some stability and continuity at the football club. In addition to this, its a chance for Wilcox to showcase his abilities to get the job on a permanent basis.
Wilcox has overseen just one win collecting an impressive win against promotion hopefuls Cheltenham Town.
Decision on New Boss at End of Season
Scunthorpe have named Wilcox as interim manager until the end of the season, with chairman Peter Swann confirming a decision on a new manager will be made once the season reaches its conclusion.
In a statement on the Scunthorpe website, Swann announced: “A decision on the full-time position of Manager will be made after the season has finished and in time for the new manager to be settled in for next season.”
“I am sure you will all appreciate this is not an easy job and we ask you to give Russ, Kevin, Lee and Paul all the support you can.”
