The Deal

Macclesfield announced via their website they had signed the winger. Hamblin arrives on a free transfer from Southampton, signing an initial deal until the end of the season.

The youngster is a product of the Southampton academy but exits St Mary’s looking for first-team football. This will be his first taste of EFL action, and he will bring some much-needed pace and creativity.

The 20-year-old progressed through the youth system at St Mary’s before making his debut for the U18 side during the 2015/16 campaign.

Prior to a loan move to National League South side Bath City for the first half of this season, Hamblin had previously established himself as a mainstay in the Saints’ U23 side during the 2018/19 campaign.

Describing himself as a tenacious midfielder player, Hamblin is ready to seize his opportunity and pull Macclesfield away from relegation danger. Although, it will be a case of building up points if the EFL deduct further points for breach of rules.

Hamblin is available for Macclesfield’s game against Northampton Town tomorrow. Mark Kennedy will be delighted to bring the youngster in. He follows Jonathan Mitchell and Danny Whitehead in joining Macclesfield this window to give them a much-needed boost.

Creativity and goals have been severely lacking at Macclesfield. Kennedy will hope the signings of Whitehead and Hamblin will Macclesfield a boost in the attacking areas as they look to pull away from both Morecambe and Stevenage at the bottom of the League Two table.
